I see a tiny speck of light
that has crept into my view...
I’ve lived in total darkness,
but I hid it well from you.

The layers of self-hatred,
so destructive to my soul...
are suddenly dissolving,
where they once had full control.

What’s this I see? A butterfly wing,
just partially in view...
so intricate and lovely,
with colors bright and new

There goes another layer,
and my heart begins to smile...
I shed the guilt and anger,
that has kept me in denial.

I see the butterfly rising
and completely shed it’s skin...
and suddenly I realize,
it’s a mirror I’m looking in.
